Dear Parents and Carers
As anticipated, the last few weeks of this term are proving to be very busy, with a wide range of extra-curricular activities making each day a bit different. This week, with Key Stage 2’s trip to the opera, the mini-Olympics, the Chestnut Class visit to Charmouth, Hazel’s Class Assembly, rehearsing for the play and swimming whenever we can, has certainly kept us all on our toes!
With time so pressured, it would be greatly appreciated if you would check the clarity of your child’s name in all their clothes. In one class this week, confusion over summer dress ownership revealed that none of them was named…
Swimming
We are also now struggling to provide enough swimming hats for those children who have forgotten them or don’t have them. Our stock of spares has depleted to the extent that, if your child doesn’t have their own hat next week they will be unable to swim.
As the date of the whole school play is approaching, please complete and return the slip below to book your tickets. As space is limited we can offer a maximum of 2 evening tickets per child.
We have been very pleased with swimming progress this year, helped no end by the increased confidence from having been able to swim in September. I am looking to ensure this can happen again this year, but will need to enlist another band of volunteers to keep the pool ticking over during the summer holiday. Please let Mrs Pike know if you are able to help with checking chlorine levels and adding chemicals when needed – full training will be given!
Tests and reports
The children have now almost completed their Summer Tests, designed to give us an accurate picture of their academic progress over the year. The national tests and assessments (Reception’s EYFS Profile, Year 1 Phonics Screening, Year 2 SATs, Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check and the Year 6 SATs have all been submitted and we should have the results of most of them by the end of term. We have also carried out some other tests for the various year groups which will ensure we know what the children have remembered, and what they will need to focus on for the rest of this term. Throughout this ‘exam season’, the children have tried their hardest and their approach to them has been outstanding. I am sure they will do themselves proud. The teachers are finishing off the children’s annual report which will summarise their attainment and effort in all areas of the curriculum; these will be sent home in a couple of weeks, and you will have the opportunity to discuss the content of the report with the class teacher before the end of term.
Covid update
You may be aware that numbers are rising across the country and we are seeing more cases within the school community. Please can you encourage your children to continue to practise good hygiene – washing hands regularly and well, and catching it, binning it and killing it!
ParentView
At our recent Governors’ Meeting, the outcome of this term’s parental survey was raised. I was unable to give much feedback because Ofsted’s website only analyses returns once a sufficient number have been completed. It would still be very good if you could complete the on-line version, to be found at Welcome to Ofsted Parent View | Ofsted Parent View. In order to gain the most accurate picture of your feelings about the school, I am sending home a paper version for you to complete. As an incentive, attached to the questionnaire is a raffle ticket which, if it is removed from the form, your child’s name written on it and posted in the box in Reception, you will stand a chance of winning a fantastic prize…
