‘Be your best – together we grow’
Welcome to our first governor’s newsletter for the academic year 2017 – 18, we have just had our first meeting of the year where I was very proud to have been elected as Chair. Martin Crossman was elected as vice chair and we both feel very privileged to have such a strong and hardworking team around us to help guide the school in delivering the very best it can for the children. I will be in school at a variety of events and look forward to meeting you all soon. You can contact me by email: chair@stowerprovost.dorset.sch.uk
Goodbyes
At the end of last year we found ourselves saying goodbye to one of our most valued governors, Cathy Barrow. She has worked tirelessly for the school steering it through the ups and downs of last year as Chair, she provided valuable consistency and experience on the governing body, which we thank her greatly for. She is planning on spending more time with her husband and family and we wish her all the luck in future.
Welcomes
We welcome Mrs. Elaine Weaver as interim head and Mr. James Stanford, Year 5/6 teacher, to the Stower Provost family. We know they are both really up for the challenges that face them this year and wish them all the best in their new roles.
The Governing Board are seeking to recruit a new headteacher and we are united in finding the very best candidate. We are confident that the school is well placed to attract a good field of candidates and I will write again later this term to let you know the outcome of the appointment process.
The governing body has a new clerk this year Mrs. Brida Skipworth and she can be contacted by email on bskipworth@stowerprovost.dorset.sch.uk
Thank you
The governing board would like to express their appreciation to all of the staff, they put in very long hours and are totally dedicated to our school and children. I am always delighted to see the displays of pupils work in the corridors – hope that you have also had a chance to enjoy them as well. Their work is amazing!
The governors would also like to thank the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association for all their hard work in putting on enjoyable events and for the much-needed contributions to voluntary improvement projects and money they raise. For all schools a combination of rising costs and frozen budgets means we have to make some very tough choices. We are working hard to ensure that cuts have the least impact on the children and teaching as possible and the money raised by our Parent Association will enable us to keep subsidising trips, workshops and resources. Please keep supporting them!
My next thank you is to all of you that contributed to the Parent Survey, the governors are very grateful for your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to participate, your assistance is greatly appreciated.
The governing body
As our governing body evolves we do look for new recruits so if you are aware of anyone in the broader community who wishes to serve as a co-opted governor please let us know. We will also be running parent governor elections very soon, I would urge you to think about applying for these posts as governors are vital in ensuring we hold the school to account for its performance for our pupils and in maintaining the ethos of the school. Please watch out for the adverts for these posts but in the meantime if anyone wants to find out more about being a governor, please do not hesitate to contact me, although we have attached some information for you to read.
Best wishes,
Vanessa Lucas (Chair of Governors)
