Dear Parents and Carers
We have now arrived at the half term holiday and it is good to see the progress the children have been making this term. I am lucky to have the opportunity to teach every child in the school and it is clear they are working hard and enjoying their learning. As it is such a short term with so many events to squeeze in, I am afraid we have had to cancel a number of clubs due to other commitments of staff. If at any stage you would like to support a club working alongside a member of staff, or to run your own, even if it is just for half a term, please let me know.
Next half term is very busy. Looking through the calendar, there are all sorts of themed days and weeks we could be involved in, so we have had to make some difficult choices. Please see below for details and an up to date list for your diaries.
Parents’ Evenings – Mon 16th March 3:30 – 5:00 (Chestnut and Oak Classes), Tuesday 17th March (Hazel Class), Wednesday 18th March 5:00 – 7:00 (all classes)
Appointment slips for these will be sent home after half term. When booking, please note that one of our sessions coincides with the Dorset Big Bang science event your child may wish to go to – see below for details. Please also note that Art, Mindful Colouring and Tag Rugby clubs will not take place that week.
Creative Curriculum event
This termly event will take place on Wednesday 1st April; details for each class will be sent home separately and I hope you will be able to join us to celebrate the children’s work.
Fairtrade Fortnight
Please see the extra letter about the School Council’s plans for raising awareness of this
World Book Day 5th March
Advanced notice for you to think about our planned events for World Book Day. On 5th March, instead of our usual dressing up, we will be inviting the children to come in with a clue from a favourite book. The other children will then have fun guessing which book it has come from! We will also be asking them to bring in a copy of a book they would like to share, and we will be encouraging the children across the school to talk about their books with younger or older children. Finally, we will be hosting a Book Swap – bring in a book no longer read at home and swap it for someone else’s.
Sport Relief 13th March
Big Bang @ Dorset 18th March 2020 – 5.00pm to 7.30pm
This exciting festival takes place at Bovington Tank Museum – see https://nearme.thebigbangfair.co.uk/view/?eve_id=2030 for details.
PE Kits
Please remember that the children need to have their PE kits in school every day. School blue t-shirt, black shorts, daps/plimsolls are needed for indoor activities, and a spare pair of socks, a sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms make the outdoor sessions more pleasant at this time of year. As always, please make sure each item is named.
