The children had an amazing time visiting New House Farm today. We were shown around the farmyard and saw cows, yearlings and calves. We were able to hand feed the cows some pellet food and watched the calves being fed milk from a feeder. The children got to meet a calf that was born yesterday! We learnt about the different types of cow, what they need to be fed – silage that has been pickled, wheat, and rye grass when they are out in the fields, and what happens to the milk afterwards (we were treated to some cheese made with the milk from the farm).
