Dear Parents and Carers,

THIS WEEK
Oak Class Trip to Winchester
Oak Class had an extremely long yet fun packed day in Winchester on Wednesday. Leaving at 8.30am and arriving at the Science Museum at 10am, it was straight into a workshop where children extended their learning about the heart, lungs and circulatory system. The children tested their peak flows and plotted these on a graph, and had the opportunity to handle sheep hearts. We visited the planetarium and learnt about the night sky and then it was time to explore the various hands on experiments and apparatus linked to space, sound, energy and more.
We left the Science Museum and ventured into the heart of Winchester where the children explored the city by following a treasure hunt, following directions and solving clues.
The children enjoyed a well-deserved pizza and drink at an ASK restaurant and then made their way to the Theatre Royal, where they experienced a 30th Anniversary show performed by the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, which was quite an experience!
Following a slightly later departure from Winchester and a diversion off the A303 we eventually arrived back at school at 11.30pm. A great day was had by all, and the children did remarkably well to make it through a busy Thursday in the classroom, reviewing their learning.
My thanks to staff who accompanied us on the trip, as well as parents for turning out late at night to collect their children!
Lego Club
Lego Club had to build pizzas this week, Jasper was our winner with a tomato, basil and mozzarella margarita pizza.

CLASS OVERVIEWS
Oak Class
See information about the trip above. (Mrs B)
Chestnut Class
In Chestnut class this week, we’ve focused on adding and subtracting. We made use of manipulatives to see how we may have to make an exchange. We also started using column addition.
In History we explored 2 different historical records about king Athelstan and what made him a great leader. It has been lovely to see that Science lesson has had an impact outside of the classroom. We looked at the structure of the tooth and what happens when teeth are not looked after correctly. We spoke about cavities, plaque, as well as the importance of tooth brushing.
In English, we focused on using time adverbs, verbs, adjectives, onomatopoeia, possessive apostrophes and synonyms. We are following the footsteps of our book character “Arthur” on his journey to collect the sound of a cat’s footfall. (Mrs Sanda)
Beech Class
This week in Beech Class, the children have been looking at adjectives to describe situations as well as themselves to support our future writing piece about Habitats, where children will need to describe a habitat that is specific to certain animals’ needs. In Maths, the children have been continuing to enjoy exploring manipulatives to support their understanding of numbers from 20 – 100, counting in tens and being able to partition numbers into tens and ones.
During the afternoons, Beech Class have been delving into the importance of washing hands through a hands-on experiment, looking at the differences between Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus as well as enjoying a key Hannukah game with the dreidel. Have a great Half Term Holiday! (Mrs Whelan)
Hazel Class
The children have had another busy week learning about the artist Jackson Pollock and recreating some of his artwork. The children thoroughly enjoyed flicking and dribbling paint on big sheets of fabric and finding different ways to paint. In fact we’ve had a very busy week painting, in maths we were using 3D shapes to stamp circles and triangles on to big sheets of paper to understand how many sides the shapes have and noticing that the triangles had the same number of sides regardless of whether they are standard or non-standard.
