22nd January 2016

Dear All,

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, the staff spent the INSET day at the start of term looking at the school’s approach to the children’s personal development, behaviour and welfare. As a result we have reviewed our teaching of PSHE and our approaches to it. The new approach we are using is called ‘Jigsaw’ and it helps children understand and value who they are, and how they fit and contribute to the world. Jigsaw brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development. We feel it will help further develop the ‘Together we Grow’ ethos we have at the school and provide an exciting stimulus for your children.

A focus from this is to increase the children’s awareness of internet safety and the school will be taking part in the national Internet Safety Day on 9th February. There will also be a chance for parents to find out more about internet safety and keeping your child safe on line, after class assemblies this term. You are invited to stay behind after each class assembly and there will be a short presentation by me, sharing of really useful information on how to keep your child safe when they are on line. It would be great if you could support this, I think you will find it worthwhile. The first of these events is next Friday, 29th January, at Oaks assembly.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Kind regards

Martin Marshall

A Plea from the PTFA

Did you know that whenever you buy anything online – from your weekly shop to your annual holiday – you could be raising a free donation for our school PTFA? There are nearly 3,000 retailers on board ready to make a donation, including Amazon, John Lewis, Boots, Viking,  PC World,  Trainline Direct,  Tescos and Sainsbury’s – it doesn’t cost you a penny extra! It’s really simple, all you have to do is:

  1. Join. Head to www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/stowerprovostcpschoolgillingham/and sign up for free.
  2. Shop. Every time you shop online, go to Easyfundraising first, pick the retailer you want and start shopping.
  3. Raise. After you’ve checked out, that retailer will make a donation to your good cause for no extra cost whatsoever!

There are no catches or hidden charges and Stower Provost School  PTFA will be really grateful for your donations.  We have managed to raise an impressive £ 306 over the last two years and that’s with only 14 supporters using the Easy fundraising link! If you want to know more please ask any PTFA member or email nataliegilding@hotmail.co.uk.  Thank you for your support.

And Finally…… A reminder

If you child has suffered from sickness or diarrhoea please keep your child at home for 48 hours after the symptoms have past. Thank you.

There has been more reported cases of head lice. Please do have a look at your child’s head once a week so that we can keep on top of the situation. Advice from NHS is – After a head lice infestation has been confirmed you can treat the lice at home by wet combing the hair with a head lice comb (available from school office £1) or by using a lotion or spray that’s designed to kill head lice. As always your cooperation with this is appreciated.

It is really important that you read the newsletter, it is also available on the website, all important information is shared on this. Thank you! If you are not sure please ask?
