Dear Parents and Carers,

Oak Class Residential visit

This has been a very exciting week for our oldest children, who went away for their first school residential visit. They travelled on Sunday to the PGL Beam House centre in North Devon and had a brilliant time on high ropes and trapeze, learning about orienteering and problem solving and learning how to Street Surf and abseil, all interspersed with very loud singing, plenty of delicious food and two trips to the PGL Sweet Shop!

It is a wonderful experience for the children, all of whom took part, and for some of them it was their first time away from home. It was also lovely to have comments from the staff at the centre saying ours were such polite children and how good it was to see them pushing themselves and supporting each other. They all challenged themselves on every activity and should all be very proud of their achievements – we certainly are! Many thanks to Mrs Clasby, Ms Stone and Mrs Batten (who sadly could not attend at the last minute) for all their organisation of the trip and their commitment to the children while they were away. There are some photographs on the school website to give a flavour of what they got up to; do have a look.

Clothing

Oak Class was very lucky while the children were away as the weather was mostly perfect. Yesterday’s snow flurries, however were a reminder that we are still likely to have changeable, cold and wet weather. Please make sure your child has a warm waterproof coat in school each day.

Parents’ Evenings

It was good to see so many of you in school for Parents’ Evenings last week. If you were not able to make an appointment then, the teachers will be contacting you to find a mutually convenient time.

Volunteers in School

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to come into school to support the children’s learning. I am planning for this to start immediately after Easter, so please contact the class teacher direct via the class e-mail next week to arrange the best time. If you do not already have DBS Clearance with us, this will need to be completed before you start – please e-mail Mrs Pike (office@stowerprovost.dorset.sch.uk) for details.

After School Club

We have been very pleased to have been able to offer the After School Club for a couple of hours each day throughout the last year. Unfortunately, demand has now fallen and we are not able to offer that length of time. After Easter, we will need to finish at 4:35pm each day unless sufficient regular interest on certain days will make it viable to stay open later. If you have a regular need on any day for the ASC provision to be open later, please e-mail Mrs Pike with your requirements and we will do what we can to accommodate.

INSET Day – Friday 8th April

Along with other local schools, we have an INSET (Staff Development) Day on Friday, 8th April. This means the school will be closed to children and they therefore break up for the Easter Holiday on Thursday 7th April at 3:20pm. We look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday 25th April.

With best wishes

James Stanford
