There seems to be a lot going on at school at the moment! Let’s ‘kick off’ with some upcoming football…
Soccer Linguistics. We have taken up an offer from Yeovil Town FC to deliver their ‘Soccer Linguistics’ programme for Year 5&6 children. This involves learning some simple vocabulary and phrases in a modern foreign language – in this case Polish, as YTFC have a Polish player and recognise the presence of a Polish community in the area. This is followed by football training with qualified coaches using some of the language learned. This will take place on Wednesday afternoons over the next 6 school weeks and the children should be ready for their normal ‘hometime’ arrangements.
Brass concert. To celebrate their achievements in learning to play trombone, trumpet etc, Chestnuts class will be performing to the school in the hall this Thursday (23rd) at about 11:30, and their parents would be very welcome to attend.
Acorns’ Assembly will be this Friday, 24th March. Come along and enjoy it!
Comic Relief. We have a pack of Red Noses in school (£1 per nose) which Year 6 children will be selling at breaks and lunchtimes.
The Big Pedal. Hopefully you will have received last week’s letter giving details about this event. Let’s hope for good cycling weather and a full bike shelter between the 27th and 31st of March! On this Thursday in assembly, Alison Jay, Dorset sustainability officer, will be talking to the children about cycling to school. We aren’t in the best location for cycling, but please give it a go if you can. Our new vicar, Richard Priest has promised to cycle in for his Tuesday assembly.
Blackmore Vale Lions Club Swimarathon 2017. Thanks go to Mrs Carter for entering and organising a team. On Saturday 1st April, Rose, Emilie, Rosie, Henry, Alfie and Lucy (great to see an ex-pupil still supporting us – just try and look like a Year 6, Lucy) will be ploughing up and down the pool at Clayesmore. If you’d like to support them, please ask in the office or just drop a few coins in! The donations are split equally between the Lion’s charities and the school. Many thanks!
And now to things that have already happened…
Year3-4 Football Tournament. This took place last Wednesday at Gillingham School. The team: Will, James, George, Leighton, Sunny, Ellie, Sam and Joe played 5 games with increasing success! The team received certificates in last Friday’s assembly. Well done to them and thank you to Miss Gale and Miss Martin for giving up their time to make it possible.
Conkers’ Assembly. The children of Years R & 1 put on an entertaining show for their parents and the rest of the school last Friday. After a very musical start, we discovered Where the Wild Things Are, with some vibrant artwork and well crafted descriptions. Another musical interlude rounded off the performance. Well done to the children, ably directed by Mrs Symonds and Mrs Cross, and to the large number of parents who attended. Stars of the week were Liam, George and Lucy. Hannah and Henry received Reading certificates, and Rio a Silver certificate. Angus, Emilie & Dylan shared their swimming achievements with us. Well done to all!
Best wishes
A Covell
