Last Friday, our ‘Stars of the Week’ were Ruby, Libby, Belle and all of Year 6 – for their positive approach to the dreaded SATs. At least they’re over! A batch of Silver Certificates was awarded: Sunny, Owen, Sam, George T, Leighton, Poppy, Ellie-Tailor, Chloe C, Oliver, Rubeckia and Esme. From out of school, Hannah told us about her Bronze Rookie Lifeguard award and Keanu had his ASA Level 5 swimming certificate. Well done all!
Visitors: On the Friday afternoon, Mr Whitfield gave a fascinating and informative talk about bees. His bee-keeping equipment and multimedia presentation really engaged the children – a great way to end the week!
Swimming: The school pool is nearly ready for use. We just await a satisfactory water test report (fingers crossed!) Class teachers will tell the children when they need to bring in their swim kit. They will need a one–piece swimming costume, a towel, and goggles if they are used to using them. We don’t ask for swim hats, but if a child prefers to wear one that’s fine as long as they can get it on without assistance. Similarly, if your child needs armbands their own can be brought in, but please make sure they are inflated and ready for your child to don. After school swimming will start after the half-term break.
The pre-school are again running a holiday club during the July/August Summer break, but note that booking forms need to be in by 26th May.
Any Sainsbury’s vouchers would be gratefully received. Please send them in with your child, or hand to the member of staff ‘on the door’. On the other hand, ‘fidget spinners’ have made themselves unwelcome, so please ask your child to keep them at home!
There’s mention of several of our Past pupils in the recent Gillingham School newsletter, and it was particularly pleasing to see that Joanne Parsons has become Head Girl for 2017-2018. Well done to her and congratulations from us! It’s always great to hear how ex-Stower pupils are getting on.
Another part of the school community is the PTFA. You will have seen the new fence between pool and car park, but they have also been busy with repairs to the outdoor classroom. Many thanks to them for a huge amount of work last week-end. I don’t think that many other schools could have mustered such an impressive effort. Instead of taking a break, Mr Gilding is straight onto the next project! He writes:
The school’s PTFA have been testing a new method of parent to parent communication, it’s called ClassList. It is an innovative, secure and free way for parents to communicate with other parents in their child’s year group without the need to know email addresses. It can be used to check what’s going on, reunite children with lost items of clothing, arrange car share and much, much more. ClassList also enables the PTFA to send out school wide announcements helping to keep everyone in touch with what’s going on.
To join our ClassList you need to be invited. If you have already given the PTFA your email address you will be receiving you invitation shortly. The school cannot give us your email address so if you do not get an invitation please send an email to PTFA@stowerprovost.dorset.sch.uk
Simply title the email “ClassList – I’m in” and let us know your name and we will send you your invitation. ClassList truly comes into its own when everyone joins, so please don’t delay, get in touch today!
