Dear Parents and Carers
It has been very good to see how well the children have settled back into school during the past two weeks; I was particularly proud of them on Monday when we welcomed into school an Advisory Headteacher from the Local Authority. She was very impressed with the work the children were doing, and pleased to see the impact of the work the staff have been putting into place. This adds to the very positive feel around the school as the children continue to progress well. Thank you, children, and well done!
Parent Forum – 10th May 2:30pm
Please make a note of this date in your diary for our next Parent Forum meeting. We will be discussing the findings from the recent parent questionnaire (what you feel about the school up to now), and reviewing the school’s mission statement and vision (what you would like from the school in the future). Mrs Lucas, Chair of Governors, will be in touch soon to tell you more about this process, and it would be good to hear the views of a wide range of parents at the meeting.
English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (or SPAG…) Workshop for Parents
One point raised at a previous Parent Forum meeting was the difficulty in supporting children at home with a curriculum so different from the past. We have already held a Maths Methods workshop this term (which we will repeat later in the term if there is enough call for it), and now it is time for English, specifically the expectations relating to grammar. If you would like to learn more about how we teach Grammar, to have support in identifying a relative clause in a complex sentence, or to learn how to write a sentence of 3 (this is one – with parenthesis!), do come along to the hall on Wednesday 2nd May at 3:30pm. The workshop cheap xanax bars lasts about an hour, and will be run again at 6:00pm. Children are welcome to join you at either workshop.
Bristol Residential Trip
Immediately following the second SPAG workshop, at 7:00pm on Wednesday, 2nd May, I will be holding a meeting for all parents of children in Oaks Class (Years 5 and 6) to share information about their trip to Bristol in June. Again, children welcome.
Also next week, the Dental Hygienist will be coming to talk to the younger children about the importance of looking after their teeth and gums.
Unrelated to this, we are running a Bikeability Level 1 course at school for children aged 8 or above. There are still spaces on this course, at school on Wednesday 2nd May, from 1:30 – 4:30pm, cost £16. Please let me know if you are interested.
Internet Safety Briefing
Many of you will have been concerned to hear the recent news about the intrusiveness of certain social media and search engine sites. We have invited the Safer Schools and Communities Team to come and talk to the children in Years 2 and 6 about how to keep themselves safe using technology, and I have also arranged for a session for parents and carers. This takes place on Wednesday 16th May, 3:30 – 4:30pm. I thoroughly recommend this workshop as you will be told not only about the sorts of risks children may be exposed to, but also how you can improve the safety and security of your IT equipment (computers, tablets, phones, X-Boxes etc).
This week’s Star Pupils
Conkers: Gilbert for describing a good friend.
Acorns: Ethan for being a super friend.
Chestnuts: Johnny for solving friendship problems sensibly and honestly.
Oaks: William for developing good friendships.
I hope you all have a relaxing weekend. Don’t forget that the following week is a Bank Holiday weekend, so there is no school on Monday 7th May.
With best wishes
James Stanford
