Newsletter 7th July 2023
July 7, 2023 Sandy Pike

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week has been a busy one, with children in all year groups experiencing their moving up days. The staff have worked exceptionally hard to ensure the school remains open to all pupils, while many other local schools have closed specific year groups due to industrial action.

Summer Celebration Volunteers Needed

Our school summer celebration is on Friday 14th July 5-7pm on the school field.  Volunteers are needed to help on stalls. The PTFA are requesting adult help for 30 mins stints. By everybody doing a little, the aim is that everyone can enjoy the evening. Do please contact Sophie Wareham, Rebecca Whitfield or Sandy Pike to offer your ‘helping hands’ for 30 minutes!

This week, Oak have been creating some art based on LS Lowry and Picasso. We have also written a persuasive leaflet for Hooke Court. In maths, we have been continuing to look at ratio and division and the year fives completed their NFER tests. They worked really hard and did very well. We have also started to design our own Dorset buttons. Next week, we are looking forward to continuing our science work on changes in our bodies as we age from birth to conception.

In Maths, Year 4 have been learning about lines of symmetry and completing symmetric figures. Year 3 have been naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes and drawing different 2D shapes.

During English, the children have been planning and writing their own story. The children had to select from a number of different pictures and incorporate what was happening in their picture into their story.

In French the children have been learning to describe different types of weather. Next week, they will be learning phrases for different sports.

Beech Class

Beech Class enjoyed their moving up days this week and have had two creative curriculum days, where art has been the focus. The children have learnt about primary and secondary colours, mixed their own shades and explored a variety of artists.

Hazel Class

The children have been investigating and building their confidence with numbers to 20. they have played lots of different number games to support this learning. The children have also been reviewing their favourite animal books, talking to each other about why they like it, their favourite part and character(s). The children have been creating animal masks for the characters in our story, The Lion Inside, they have practised their art skills to curl and roll paper to create hair for their masks.
