Friday 7th June 2019
Dear Parents and Carers
On Tuesday, children in Key Stage 1 had an enjoyable morning at Clayesmore School taking part in a singing festival. Joining in with other schools, they practised some songs they had been learning and performed to an audience of parents. As always, our children were brilliantly behaved, sang well and had a lovely time.
Swimming
The swimming pool is fully up and running now, and it has been great to see the children enjoying the warm water. It was interesting to overhear conversations of the children about the wisdom of going swimming in the rain in case you get wet…I must reiterate the policy (noted in my newsletter of 26th April) that no jewellery, including earrings, may be worn in our pool, and it is not an option to cover the earrings with tape as we can for some other sports activities. Please make sure your child can remove their own earrings if they are worn on a swimming day, or preferably that earrings are not worn to school for the rest of term. If your child is not able to remove their earrings, they will not be able to swim.
If your child would like extra time in the pool, please complete and return the afterschool swimming club slips as soon as possible, with the remittance of £1:50 per session.
Eco News – Crisp Packet Recycling
Well done to Rocco in Year 3 for standing up in assembly this morning to tell the whole school about his new recycling initiative. He has provided two boxes for the children to put empty, unfolded and untied crisp packets in, one in the hall for lunch-time use, and one by the main front door. These packets are then sent off for recycling into other plastic items, such as our outdoor picnic tables, and the school receives an amount of money for each kilogram collected. This is a great addition to our environmentally-aware school, so please encourage your family to save their crisp packets (including the outer wrapper from a multipack) and put them in one of the boxes. Remember – no knots, folds, tubes, popcorn, pretzel or meat snack bags. Just flat crisp packets!
Don’t forget we also recycle ink-jet and toner cartridges – please bring yours into school as we also receive money back for these.
Internet Safety Briefing
A reminder that there is a briefing for parents by the Safer Schools and Communities Team next Friday 14th June after school. Providing invaluable information about sites your children may be using, including the potential unsuitability and dangers, I cannot stress enough the importance of this briefing enough. While you may be happy that your settings are sufficient to keep your own child safe at home, it will help raise awareness of what the children may have access to elsewhere, and how you can deal with any issues that may arise. Please do come along – we will have a crèche available for your child if you need it, as the briefing is not suitable for children.
I hope to see lots of the children back in school this evening for the Film Night, 5pm – 7pm, £3:00 first child, £2:50 siblings to include a drink and a snack – and this time they will be able to recycle the packet!
With best wishes
James Stanford
